We are currently specing out laptops and I was the guinea pig assigned to test the HP 8540w Elitebook with the Quadro FX 880M video adapter. OS: Windows 7 64-Bit I am very disappointed with the NVIDIA driver. I have rolled back to earlier version drivers and also installed their latest references drivers - always the same problem - when rotating a 3D polygon mesh model - it leaves artifacts on the screen. It also eventually locks up, sometimes killing the application, sometimes locking the laptop up and forcing a cold boot. There is apparently no way to contact NVIDIA directly on this issue, perhaps HP has the horsepower to do this, at any rate - I would NOT recommend the above described build for engineering applications. The FX 1800M card that is offered as an option for the 8540w is far more robust and does not exhibit the same driver issues that the FX 880M does. The FX 880M has impressive specs and architecture for the price range it is offered in, however. Feel free to contact me on this issue - I have done extensive testing including bandwidth metering, memory loading etc. Although I dont really run graphic intensive applications, the Quadro FX880m makes my laptop very unreliable. I have experienced crashes several times a weeka with different versions of the drivers. Sometimes, it happens when I put the computer to sleep, but sometimes I am just using it and it freezes or crashes. I have seen customers complaining about this but never saw a reasonable response from either HP or NVidia. I have the same Hardware and OS: Hp8540W Win 7 Pro 64 Bits, and also the same problem with Quadro Fx 880M. Problem: When Rotating objects in adobe acrobat reader kernel fails and recovers, every time. Tried installing Adobe Air: didnt solve before it also hapened. Also: Did you experience System wake up after being shut down. Every time I opened two PDFs the video driver would stop responding, black the screen and generally flash about until it could resume. Once everything seemed to stabilize (which took a couple of minutes) then I could continue. ![]() Then I get the 27x.xx drivers which appears to correct the Adobe issue, but when the machine turns off the monitor (power settings, turn off display after xx minutes) -- its not sleeping, I cant ever get the screen to come back on, the keyboard is dead so all hope of a soft reset is gone, and the only way to bring it back is with a hard boot reset. Glad to know Im not alone, although I wish there was a solution. I am having the same problem - this time with any of my conferencing video chats It craters the laptop. Is anyone aware of a fix I have updated the NVIDIA driver all the way to 275.33 and back to 26x.xx versions but it has not corrected the issue.
